The Philippines is eyeing to host one of the four legs of Asean Men’s Grand Prix in September, according to Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) Secretary General Don Caringal.

The event comes after the PNVF’s successfully hosting of two legs—men and women—of the Volleyball Nations League in Quezon City last June and the forthcoming Asian Volleyball Confederation Women’s Volleyball Cup next month.

“We’re happy to announce that we’re part of the home-and-away matches of the Grand Prix,” Caringal said. “There was no bidding involved but we’re just as enthusiastic in hosting the event.”

Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand will host the other legs. Caringal represented the PNVFI in the Southeast Asian Volleyball Association (SAVA) meeting at the Novotel in Surabaya, Indonesia, last week.

He said no definite dates and venue have been picked for the Philippine leg of the Grand Prix, which offers a prize money of $25,000 to the champion, $20,000 to the runner-up, $15,000 to the third placer and $10,000 to the fourth placer.

PNVF President Ramon “Tats” Suzara said the Grand Prix provides an opportunity for Southeast Asian teams to play outside of their countries other than those in the higher Asian level.
