HONG KONG, CHINA – Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) President Ramon Suzara recently visited Hong Kong, China to discuss the future of volleyball in the region and explore potential collaborations with local stakeholders.

In the three day meet, Suzara, who also serve as FIVB Executive Vice President and Philippine National Volleyball Federation president, met with key stakeholders and local executives including Marina Tsui, Treasurer of the AVC; Wilfred Ng, President of the Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China; and Edgar Yang, Secretary-General of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China. 

Discussions centered on the potential of Hong Kong hosting future AVC events, which would not only showcase the sport to a wider audience but also provide valuable experience and exposure for local players and officials.

Hong Kong has emerged as a leading volleyball city, successfully hosting the Volleyball Nations League Women’s matches in 2024. This momentum continues as the city is set to host the VNL Women’s Pool matches again in June 2025, solidifying its position as a premier destination for international volleyball.

The meeting also explored potential partnerships between the Philippines and Hong Kong, China including support for the upcoming 2025 Volleyball Men’s World Championship in Manila this September 12-28, 2025 

The highly-anticipated Volleyball Men’s World Championship will showcase 32 of the top men’s teams in the world playing in two historic venues in the Philippines — Smart Araneta Coliseum and SM Mall of Asia Arena. President Suzara extended an invitation to key officials to attend the championship.

Suzara also visited the headquarters of the Volleyball Association of Hong Kong, China where he reiterated his commitment to expanding volleyball’s reach across Asia by promoting regional collaboration and organizing high-level competitions to inspire future generations.

In a gesture of goodwill, Suzara presented Hong Kong leaders with traditional Filipino ornaments crafted from Capiz shells. These intricately designed gifts symbolize the enduring partnership and shared aspirations for the growth of volleyball in the region.
