China remained on track for a sixth AVC Cup for Women following a 19-25, 25-20, 25-14, 23-25, 15-10 victory over Thailand in the semifinals Sunday.
The defending champions will take the winner of the other semifinal between Japan and Vietnam for the gold at 7 p.m. on Monday.
Unbeaten in six matches in the event hosted by the Philippine National Volleyball Federation, the Chinese are looking good to extend their reign which started in 2014
“We will just try our best and prepare for tomorrow’s match,” said China coach Kuang Qi through an interpreter.
Wu Mengjie scored 13 of her 29 points in the second set where the Chinese tied the match at one set apiece while Zhuang Yushan and Zhou Yetong each had 17 points.
The Thais will face the loser of the Japanese-Vietnamese duel for the bronze medal at 4 p.m.
Chatchu-on Moksri recorded 21 points, including two blocks, while Pimpichaya Kokram, scoreless in the first two sets, drilled in 12 points for Thailand.
