LIPA City—The Sabong International Spikers (SIS) kept their semifinals hopes alive with a 25-21, 25-21, 17-25, 25-21 win over Global Remit in the Philippine National Volleyball Federation Champions League om Tuesday at the Aquamarine Recreational Center.
Jelord Talisayan sparkled with 18 kills, six digs and six receptions for SIS, composed of players from Negros Oriental, which improved to 1-1 won-lost in Pool B.
“We didn’t expect to beat them [Global Remit,” Talisayan said. “They are a strong team and we prepared so well against them.”
“One of our main purposes is to inspire the young people of Negros Oriental,” said Talisayan, who is playing out of Guihulngan City. “We want to show them that we are role models in playing volleyball when they grow up.”
Rebounding from last Monday’s tough five-set loss to MRT-Negros, SIS displayed composure to send Global Remit to its second straight loss.
Charles Absin had three blocks to finish with 15 points while Ramil de La Cruz contributed 10 points and 12 receptions for SIS.
A victory over unbeaten Team Dasmariñas at 10 a.m. on Wednesday coupled with an MRT-Negros loss to Global Remit in the 4 p.m. match will send SIS to the semifinals of the tournament that has Rebisco, Pitmaster Foundation Inc., Top Speed, 1Pacman Partylist, Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Olympic Committee as platinum sponsors and F2 Logistics, Asics, PLDT, MVP Sports Foundation and Mikasa as gold sponsors and BCDA, Philippine Red Cross, Lipa City, Davis Paint and Emerald PVC Pipes, Fittings and Doors as silver sponsors with PNVF godfather, Taguig Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano, chairman of the Champions League, giving his full support.
Joeven de la Vega led Global Remit with 21 points, including three blocks, and Josh Villanueva chipped in 11 points.
Global Remit lost Ron Medalla to a left knee injury late in the second set where SIS was leading, 22-16.
SIS was ahead 22-14 in the fourth set when Alex Disquitado, Joeven Dela Vega and Peter Quiel led Global Remit’s 6-1 run to slice the lead to 20-23.
But SIS capitalized on Global Remit’s two errors in the last three rallies to close out the one-hour and 49-minute match.
The games are live streamed over the PNVF official website volleyballphilippines.com, iWantTFC for local and international audiences, Puso Pilipinas and Smart Sports Facebook pages and YouTube channels and Gigaplay.
