THE Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) vowed to support its Mindanao regional member Tawi-Tawi in sustaining beach volleyball programs in the provinces.

In a letter to PNVF President Ramon “Tats” Suzara, Tawi-Tawi Volleyball Club (TVC) President Edward Lee said that beach volleyball is “alive and kicking in the island province amid the Covid-19 pandemic.”

“We successfully managed two tournaments last July 14 and 15 for men and last August 2 and 3 for men and women sponsored by BARMM [Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao] Sports Commission and Philippine Sports Commission, respectively,” Lee said.

“Please help me in maintaining the momentum by sponsoring a tournament to divert attention of our youth from drugs,” Lee said. “We have a lot of grassroots talents here especially the boys.”

During those competitions which was conducted under strict health and safety protocols, Lee said that the TVC discovered several 6-footers aged 16 to 23 whom he said “all play excellent beach volleyball.”

Lee also offered the province’s white pristine beach volleyball sand courts as a potential training camp for the national teams in the future.

Suzara said that he will refer Lee’s requests to PNVF Board Member and Beach Volleyball Commission chairperson Charo Soriano.

“I’m very happy that Tawi-Tawi is doing its part to grow the game of beach volleyball,” Suzara said.
